Description
THIS CAR IS NOW SOLD.
A wonderful example of the iconic Triumph Stag. This MK2 1977 car was extensively restored in 2020 by the owner who bought the car in 2009. A full body off, bare metal restoration took place where everything was checked and then either replaced or restored. All four wheel arches were replaced with new steel and the suspension rebuilt with new lower wishbone joints and poly bushes throughout. The original 3 litre V8 engine was found to be sound with no evidence of over heating but the radiator was fully flushed before refitting and an additional electric fan fitted to ensure cool running on those long summer drives. Ignition timing has been improved by the installation of a new vacuum advance unit and PerTronix distributor pick-up.
The stronger, more desirable Borg Warner type 65 automatic gearbox was checked over and the internal filter and sump gasket replaced. Professionally resprayed and looking resplendent in its original (code 19) white, the lines of the classic Michelotti designed body are enhanced by the black pin striping along its flanks. The deep finish continues underneath the car where a stone chipped coating has been applied to the chassis.Â
Up front in the cockpit the original black upholstery remains with Triumph insignia mats in the footwells. New carpet surrounds the rear seat and boot floor that is in superb order, holding the original spare wheel and working boot light. All four (plus spare) original factory alloy wheels have been polished then lacquered and shod with excellent tyres showing plenty of deep tread.Â
The new hood frame bolts ensure the hood can be erected in a moment. There’s the slightest tear in the outer skin on the passenger side of the hood but it remains waterproof. On those colder days comfort is ensured by the new heater hoses and draughts are kept to a minimum with new door and windscreen rubbers throughout.
Being sold due to lack of space and the next project, the Stag is a relatively cheap and easy to maintain classic that has that unmistakable sonorous V8 exhaust note. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a recently restored and sorted example of a true classic British sports car. The hard work has been done and it’s now waiting to be enjoyed by its new owner.
