Riley Brooklands, winner of the first New Zealand GP
Race Retro was a great success for The Historic Sports Car Collection. It was our first step into the public domain and we were greeted with much enthusiasm and support from friends and fellow exhibitors alike. It was helped of course by having our beautiful Riley Brooklands taking centre stage creating a vast amount of interest. Julian Mazjub was exhibiting opposite and he had his nose under the bonnet, giving it his approval. He owns the Brooklands prototype built by Thomson & Taylor, so it was interesting to hear about the similarities to his car. More importantly perhaps we found a couple of potential buyers and the boys from the HERO rally organisation were desperate to have the car entered for their 1000mile trial they’ve organised for prewar cars this year. We had an artist for the three days creating a lovely water colour portrait of the Brooklands which created yet more interest, but for me it was John Bailey’s banners depicting our name and logo that really made it special. Finished just prior to the show along with matching business cards it looked professional and eye catching, I was very proud to be part of the team.
